Garibaldi's are the brightest fish in the Monterey Bay. The males make a nest and the females lay their eggs and go on their way. The males guard and protect the eggs until they hatch. Garibaldi's are the California State Salt Water Fish. The quilt was hand painted with soft-edge applique' kelp. Some of the kelp is done with a transparent fabric so you can see the layer underneath giving it the look of light shining through the kelp.
